Special Reports

The Convention Secretary was asked by our new Vice President Peter Elson, Liverpool Daily Post and Echo’s shipping correspondent, could we organise a show for them.   It was to promote a DVD produced by them called The Liners of Liverpool, (The, People, The Places, The Ships).

Being local I was asked if I could arrange something.  As soon as I had some information (they specifically wanted liners) I invited several local clubs asking if they were interested in showing liners associated with Liverpool I waited a couple of days and did not get any response.

So the members of my club Liverpool M.B.C. decided to go it alone. Seven of us attended we had two liners on show, two Mersey ferries, several tugs that work the Mersey and various other vessels.

The evening was attended by guests of Honour Sir Michael Bibby, who features in the film and is head of the Bibby Line Group and Captain Robin Woodall, of Hoylake, the former Commadore and Captain of the QE2, who famously brought the liner here on her maiden visit in 1990, as well as some of Merseyside’s most respected maritime figures and several local celebrities, even Doddy Penguin.  Some even took more interest in the models than in the promotion that was taking place.

All in all it was a very successful evening all our members enjoyed it as it was something entirely different from the usual shows we attend, we were all rewarded with a copy of the D.V.D.

Vice Chairman.
